Moving and sharing projects

Move your projects to a new iPhone or iPad, and share copies of a project as a .snag file or through the Boluga server.

Your projects are stored in Snag List on your iPhone or iPad, and they're included in your device's own iCloud or computer backups.

Important: deleting Snag List deletes all the projects stored in it, and Snag List can't get them back. Please don't delete the app while you still need any of your projects, even if you've exported them or saved them to the server. If something isn't working, email us at apps@boluga.com first. Most problems can be fixed without deleting anything.

Move to a new iPhone or iPad

The most complete way is to move everything from your old device:

  • Quick Start, or restoring a backup: if you set up the new iPhone or iPad with Quick Start (transferring directly from your old device), or by restoring an iCloud or computer backup, Snag List comes across with all your projects and photos. A backup only includes projects up to the time it was made, so back up just before you switch. In iCloud Backup, make sure Snag List is included.

You can also move projects with the server or .snag files, described below.

Check before you clear your old device: whichever way you move, keep your old iPhone or iPad as it is until you've opened Snag List on the new one and checked that every project is there, with its issues and photos.

Copy a project with a .snag file

A .snag file is a copy of one project, with its issues and photos. It's handy for sending a project to a colleague or moving it to another device. After importing, check that everything has arrived.

  1. Open the project and tap the files icon in the toolbar.
  2. In the Export Project menu, choose Export .snag file.
  3. Choose where to send it: Save to Files, email, AirDrop or another app.

The same menu also has Print or export PDF (see Reports) and Export issue list .csv file.

Import a .snag file

  1. Make sure the .snag file is somewhere the Files app can see, such as iCloud Drive or On My iPhone. If someone emailed it to you, save the attachment to Files first.
  2. In Snag List, go to the Projects tab and tap +.
  3. Tap Import and choose the file.

Opening a .snag file from Mail or Files doesn't send it to Snag List, so always import from inside the app.

Save projects to the server

The Boluga server can hold a copy of your projects for you to restore on this device or another one.

  1. On the Projects tab, tap +, then Save Projects to Server.
  2. The first time, sign in on the Welcome screen with Sign in with Google or Sign in with Email.
Careful: saving replaces everything already on the server with the projects on this device, without asking first. If you use more than one device, save from the one with your latest work.

To see what's stored, tap +, then View Projects on Server. You can also sign out from there.

Restore projects from the server

  1. On the Projects tab, tap +, then Restore Projects from Server.
  2. Sign in with the same Google account or email you saved with.
  3. Snag List asks "Are you sure?" because restoring replaces the projects on this device. Tap Yes to continue.

Afterwards, check that your projects, issues and photos are all there before you rely on them.

What needs a subscription

In the free Snag List app, exporting, importing and the server need a subscription. They're included in Snag List Pro. See Free, Pro and subscriptions.
