Clocking in and out

One tap to start a shift, one to end it, and how to fix a shift you forgot.

The Clock tab is the whole app for most days: clock in when the shift starts, clock out when it ends, and the pay period card updates as you go.

Clock in

  1. Open the Clock tab. The job you are clocking in to is named at the top.
  2. Tap Clock in.

The card turns into a running shift: the job, the time you started, and the time worked so far, which pauses while you are on an unpaid break. You can put the phone away; the shift keeps running whether or not the app is open.

Only one shift runs at a time. If you have several jobs and try to clock in while another job's shift is running, the app says "Another timer is already running" and leaves it alone.

While clocked in

  • Break pauses the paid time until you tap Resume. Breaks and overnight shifts explains paid and unpaid breaks.
  • Edit start time or notes opens the shift. Use it when you clocked in late: set the start to when you actually began. Notes are free text, for example the site or the task, and appear on the timesheet and in exports.

Clock out

Tap Clock out. The shift is complete, priced from the job's rate and rules, and listed under Today and on the timesheet. The pay period card adds it in straight away.

Forgot to clock in or out

  • Forgot to clock in: tap Add a past shift under the Clock in button, or + on the Timesheet tab. Set the start and end, add any breaks, and save.
  • Forgot to clock out: open the running shift (tap Edit start time or notes, or find it on the timesheet) and set its end time. A shift with no end yet is marked Still running in the editor.
  • Get a nudge next time: in Settings, Still clocked in? sends a notification a set number of hours after clocking in, from 8 to 14. The first time you clock in the app asks to allow notifications; the reminder needs that.

A reminder to clock in

Settings › Remind me to clock in lets you choose weekdays and a time, for example Monday to Friday at 08:00. The phone then reminds you on those days. Tap Turn off on the same sheet to stop it.

Switching jobs

With more than one job, the job name at the top of the Clock tab is a menu. Pick the job before clocking in; the running card always names the job it belongs to. Each job has its own pay period card.
